Intense pulsed light (IPL) systems are intensity pulsed sources that emit polychromatic light in a board wavelenght spectrum.

 

The xenon flash lamp is a gas-discharged, intensity lamp, made of cristal or quartz, filled with xenon gas that produces bright light when an electrical current passes through the gas.

 

The principle of operation of the IPL sources is based on the theory of selective photo-thermolisys.

 

Light skin types (I-III) can tolerate more agressive parameters of high fluence (fluence: amount of energy delivered per unit area -J/cm2-).

IPL systems are not recommended to be used on skin types VI.

 

Repetitive treatments improve the efficacy of IPL systems.

 

During the course of IPL treatements, hair becomes finer, lighter, and patchy.

 

Most users may feel a heat sensation at the time of the pulse light similar to that of snapping an elastic band on the skin.
